Research Goals: A Look at the New CBI Technical Roadmap and Technical Program

CBI has developed a new technical roadmap for the battery industry based on the feedback of end-users, suppliers, battery manufacturers, and other stakeholders. In this presentation, the roadmap will be discussed, focusing on the key research topics for several important lead battery applications, such as 12 V auxiliary batteries for EVs, motive power batteries for e-bikes and e-rickshaws, and batteries for ESS systems. Topics include additives for improved charge recovery, pathways to better energy density, improved battery management through non-invasive techniques, and a look at a suite of projects focused on improving charge strategies in auxiliary batteries. The presentation will conclude with a look at what lead battery performance metrics should be improved over the next few years.
