Monitoring Remote & Mobile Battery Applications Using Cloud-Based Analytics
Watchdog® International Incorporated has developed field devices, a data platform and Cloud based analytics to provide application specific monitoring of remote, static and mobile battery applications, in both cyclic and reserve power duty. An inexpensive, non-intrusive, and easily installed field device collects the entire operating history of the battery including its geo-position. Operating data is compressed and intermittently transmitted over cellular radio channels to the Cloud. Upon receipt in the Cloud various application and battery specific analytics are performed on the data stream to detect battery or operating conditions that the application operator should be altered to. Operating data is then stored in a device operating history where machine learning techniques are used to analyze the operating history of the battery application and provide predictive analysis of battery life remaining.
With this background, the data collection methodology used for the Watchdog devices is presented. A detailed presentation of the Cloud analytics is provided, including the benefits provided by the availability of a full battery operating history and the use of exogenous data available in the Cloud. Examples of analytics utilizing actual battery operating history and the application of exogenous data to application specific analytics are also presented.
