Seri Mengasih Centre is a charity non-government organisation relying mainly on fundraising projects, and public donations for its operation costs. It operates as a special developmental day training centre providing specialised training for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities from as young as 4 years old up to adulthood.The school currently has 54 students. The school charges parent a very low placement fee but with many families on poverty level income they find it impossible to pay the fee.

In a nutshell, the main training components include:

Group behavior programs, which help individuals with severe difficulties integrate into group settings;

Tolerance training, aimed at reducing obsessions and frustrations to support smoother social interactions;

Language training, to build vocabulary and improve writing skills; and

General studies programs, which foster language development, communication abilities, and understanding of broader concepts.

Each place at Seri Mengasih costs just USD600.00 per year, per student. Our goal is to fund five full years. This long-term commitment will provide stability and certainty, ensuring that each sponsored child can continue their education and benefit fully from the centres specialised, life changing programs.

Childrens Home Kota Kinabalu

The Orphanage provides a safe, loving home to children who are orphaned or come from deeply impoverished backgrounds. While it receives some government assistance, additional funding is essential to provide proper care, education, and brighter futures.

The home currently has 57 Children from babies up to 17 years old.

Babies: 3

Ages 2 – 5: currently 3 boys and 2 girls

Ages 6 – 10: currently 4 boys and 6 girls

Ages 10 – 14: currently 3 boys and 4 girls

Ages 14 – 17: currently 4 boys and 2 girls

Bringing Joy and Support to Every Child

In March 2025, ABC organisers had the opportunity to visit the Children’s Home in Kota Kinabalu. While the dedicated team at the orphanage does an incredible job caring for the children, it was clear that the facility operates with limited resources. Many of the children lack even the simple comforts and experiences that so many of us take for granted.

One of the most pressing needs is a new children’s play area. The existing playground is now broken and unsafe, leaving the younger children without a proper space to play and be kids. Our goal is to fund the construction of a brand-new playground—a safe, joyful space where children can laugh, play, and thrive. We also plan to allocate additional funds for ongoing maintenance, ensuring the play area remains in good condition for years to come.

We haven’t forgotten about the older children either. We’ll be working closely with the orphanage to identify ways we can support the teenagers in their care—whether through educational tools, recreational activities, or just a really cool pair of Nike sneakers and the latest and greatest hoodie! Additionally, we hope to create a “Wish List” of items that delegates may be able to donate—simple things that could brighten a child’s day and bring a smile to their face.
